Below are some of Richard’s accomplishments:

Chair & Member, Manhattan Beach Planning Commission 2002- 2005

  • Richard was part of the team to FINALLY get the Renovation Plan (Preservation Ordinance) approved by City Council – allowing homeowners the option to “add on” square footage to their homes instead a complete demolition and max build out.

Council Member, Mayor - 2005-2013

  • Voted on joint agreement between the city and Los Angeles County to begin the process to build a new Manhattan Beach Public Library
  • Voted to support the MB Schools with a city funded “investment” of $1,820,000
  • Voted to increase funding for seniors programming which also started healthy meals for senior lunches twice a week.
  • Voted to approve new Playground at Polliwog Park that was designed to allow children with disabilities to participate
  • Was on the City Council Finance Sub-committee that helped guide the city through National Recession from 2007-2009
  • Voted to have So Cal Edison remove all telephone poles along Sepulveda in both directions as well as south side of Rosecrans
  • Voted to support a new Residential Construction Officer position in 2009 to oversee all construction projects in the city and oversee the enforcement of construction hours and adjacent neighbor issues. This program won a state award for its unique creation!
  • Voted to create “two” new dog parks in the city so that residents and dogs could socialize!

Served with local non-profits

  • Past President of the MB Hometown Fair and is currently back on the Fair Board of Directors
  • Past Member of the Board of Directors for the MB Chamber of Commerce. Remains as General Member of the Chamber.
  • Past Member of the Foundation Board of Directors for El Camino College
  • Fundraising Officer for the Manhattan Beach Fireworks Association
  • Member of the Board of Directors for the Beach Cities Toy Drive – Chairman in 2016 as MB is the host city
  • Long time Table Sponsor for MBEF Wine Auction and Silent Auction Donor.
  • Member of the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club
  • Member of MB CERT (Community Emergency Response Team)
